Case Summary: Earthlink rejected my DSL order, switched me to dial up and charged me for the dial up without authorization. Case Detail: I ordered DSL service from Earthlink and upon receiving my equipment I called to set up my activation. When I called, I was told that Verizon with whom I had service prior to this, had rejected my order and therefore i could not use the service. I was instructed to return my equipment and also told that my account would be canceled. Instead of canceling my service, they downgraded my order without my knowledge and replaced it with a order of unlimited dial up service. I did not authorize this change nor was I aware of it. 2 weeks after I returned the equipment, I received a charge to my debit card for the amount of money that would've been rendered had I actually ordered the dial up service for $40.17. I called the company to investigate the charges and got referred to the website. I told the person with whom I was on a live chat with the situation and they referred me to the phone number telling me they couldn't cancel my order over chat. I called the number again and had to spend 35 minutes of my time at work to get someone to rectify my situation. They promised to refund my account within 7-10 business days and a email to confirm this in 2 weeks! This is not fair and I'm more than sure this is happening to many others and I want to prevent this from happening in the future. In the meanwhile, I am waiting for my account to be refunded as we speak. |
