My direct deposit, unknown to me, was delayed the week leading up to the 4th of July. I try very hard to keep on top of my account as this happened back in January on a much smaller scale. A early access account was set up because I have multiple direct deposits. I could borrow from this account at 10 % charge which is automatically paid back when my direct deposit comes through. So I have been trying to stay on top of my account so it would never happen again. June 29 my dog fell ill and I was caught up with vet visits then taking him to OSU emergency vet. Dealing with that for a few days I missed the fact that my consistent goverment direct deposit didn't come through as it normally does every week. Somehow I was charged overdraft fees on 6-29-10 although I wasn't overdrawn which caused me to go into the negative. The next day it got worse 6-30-10. Then on 7-1-10 I checked my account and saw what was happening. I immediately transferred 750. 00 into the account from the early access plus and additonal 222.00 which put me back in the positive about 500.00. The next day I want to the bank to plead my case and found out more overdraft charges caused me to be in the negative once again. I got the runaround for the next 10 days and was treated like dirt by the bank manager. Finally the full amount was 911.00 even though my direct deposits had come in around 7-6-10. After 10 days of saying they had to wait for the regional manager to come back from vacation to make a decision on such a large sum of overdrafts I was only offered 111.00 worth of fee reversal by the manager. The regional manager is not returning my calls and I have reached out to another manager at a different branch that handled a problem that was a bank error the month before when they put my deposit in someone elses account. They can make mistakes but will they pay me if I charge them for my time and trouble? No they won't. The other manager just gave pat answers thay their "hands were tied" and that was the best they could do. I kept telling them that I needed to pay my mortgage this week with this money and they didn't care. I have called my mortgage holder and they have given me a 2 week extension. This has consumed me and causes terrible stress on top of my vet bills ( more than 1300.00). It is such a corrupt bank I can't believe they have the right to do this, it is like financial rape ( I really hate to use that word but that is how it feels).

I have a checking account and installment loan account tied to my car. Both with Fifth Third Bank. I only use the account for installment payment. They increased the the installment payment by $100 because they claimed they did not have any insurance info on the car but I had the car insured entire time. I have ended up paying almost $700 in overdraft fee even though I proved to them I had the car covered the entire time.

For the last 6 years I have had tremendous difficulty with my 5/3 accounts, from their re-ordering of charges to add overdraft fees, to ACH payments being misderected, or also let through when I create a stop payment on them.I just was on the phone for an hour with their customer service dealing with a single $20.00 charge which thanks to their "policy" of ordering from most expensive on down, turned in to 230.00+ dollars in charges, 1/3 of which they gave back, after I complained about how obviously rediculous and entrapping it was. When I tried to speak with a supervisor regarding the rest of the overdraft charges, some of which I volunteered to pay, she would only repeat her explanation of the charges, or interrupt my statements asking if there was anything else she could do. This is after the first customer service rep actually hung up on me! After I get my final direct deposit, I am closing all accounts with them.

Same story as all the others. I overdrafted $9.16 - One $5.00 debit and on $5.16 with only $1.00 in my account. Being unaware of this I then tried (on the same day) to withdraw $5.00 from the teller window. She told me I was overdrawn and to bring in $12.00 before closing to avoid the fees. I did that. The next day, I had two overdraft charges of $37.50 each and a $35.00 daily penalty. I then transferred online $110.00 from another account (also at 5/3). They held that $110.00 as a pending transaction until the charged the daily fees the next day with an added bonus of a $99.00 fee for not having the daily fee. They charge fees for their fees!!! I told them it would have been cheaper to borrow $9.16 from loan sharks. In three days 5/3 turned a negative balance of $9.16 into negative $216.16. I would love to join a class action suit. I contacted News 6 on your side - haven't heard, wrote my congressman, wrote Obama, and registered a complaint with the Federal Reserve. Unfortunately, their practices are shady but somehow legal.

I have lost about $3000 to 5/3 in the last year. I have tried SO hard to prevent this. Each time I get over draft, I am baffled. Last week it was because pending charges already applied to processed charges, resulting in $74 fee. My account was NEVER negative and I still can't understand how they said it was under BUT, I can't win, I had to pay, again. I am on unemployment and finances are VERY tight. I keep getting ripped off by them. PLEASE, some one file a class action against them. They are a nightmare to deal with. They are praying on the poor to compensate for the banking and housing crisis losses from a few years ago. They make their money from us, the struggling middle class, people who are out of work and are struggling financially. They are EVIL! Someone from 5/3 is bathing in the lap of luxury because of my inability to understand their terrible policies that they continuously change and make very unclear to their clients. I am not a valued customer to them, I am what pays the salaries of the executives. And yes, I am planning on going to a credit union as soon as I find a new job.

In sept 09 Td bank's computer glitch left my infant son and I hours from good gasless and broke creating a dangerous situation. Our direct deposit wasn't available even days later. Fees that incured were created back with a promise and apology. Recently td bank has many angry customers regarding overdraft fees. Year to date $2000 has been charged. They position debts in a way to maximumize there profits. Example if your balance is $1000 and on monday you use your debt card 6 times average of $10 each and on tuesday a $995 check is presented days later you have 6 separate overdraft fees of $35 each and the $995 check is shuffled before the small debt card purchases creating fees. Then the fees snowball into more fees because now your really short. This happened to me several times. It caused me not to be able to get my medication for my diabetes. I made a big stink insisting there fees are abusive and demand all small debt card fees reversed. They credited me $400 then said they are closing my due because it's mishandeled. They gave me 10 days when my direct deposit is set for the whole summer. Now i would like to be compensated for the danger and cost of being rescued in sept and the mental stress of this theft by endangering my family's well being. Please help

Fifth third bank has taken thousands of dollars from me and my wife over the last 5 years or more. I have fought with them many times over there practices. Most recently I was charged 74.00 for an overdraft of 13.75 when i had over 400 dollars in the bank which would have covered this. Fifth third saw fit to charge me for 4 pending charges which they didnt pay till a later date and to hold my wifes two checks which were deposited on the same day making almost 300 dollars unavailable. I was also embarresed in front of other bank customers when i was told by a bank rep that we had discussed these issues before and maybe this bank is not for us after fifteen years. This bank and its practices are unjust and to me they are nothing but legal thiefs.

Td bank has charged me over 1000 dollars. In the past year just because there computers arrange my purchases from large to small. And apparently if I make purchases after 12 noon on Friday, all purchases from then till Monday morning all come out Monday night. So not only am I getting charged multiple times from small purchases made on Saturday. I never really over drafted until Monday with one big purchase.

In the past I have been charged overdraft fees from Fifth-Third. On 5/3, a check that I didn't deduct from my register posted, and as a result I have incurred $390 in overdraft fees in the last four days, though I haven't made purchases since 5/3! This is ridiculous, and I will soon be swapping to Bank of America. As of June 19, they will not be charging ANY overdraft fees on new accounts, but rather "decline" the charge if there is not enough funds to cover them (as it should be)!!!

I made a deposit on the 5th of the month and have my mortgage come out on the 5th. I was informed by a Fifth Third rep that the deposit comes out at midnight. I put my money in that afternoon. The bank took out the mortgage and then added the credit thus making my account negative and they added overdraft fees! This is unethical and unfair.

I have not been about to pay bills, have not been eating lunch, or doing any of the "necessary" things I need to do, because two pay periods in a roll we have when over by a few dollars and by one transaction, but Fifth Third has re-arranged my transaction to take out more money, which then leaves me short. In the last few weeks they have taken $202 dollars from me total. Because of this I have been under tons of stress.

Today an ACH debit of $1500 was charged to my accnt with 5/3. My account was already overdrawn by my own mistake but could have been paid and brought current. However the bank allowed the ACH debit of $1,500 to go through even though it was already overdrawn. I have contacted the company that ordered the ACH debit they will be reversing the charge but this still leaves me with a ridiculous amount of overdraft charges that could've been avoided had someone even called to ask if the charge should have gone through. So now I am facing exactly $588.00 in overdraft charges in just 3 days. The total amount I have paid in overdraft charges from Jan until today is $1,180.00. Many of the chrages were clearly set up so that the most expensive checks would cause my account to go into overdraft there was even a charge that caused my account to be overdrawn by .38 cents which cost me $39.00. Is this legal?? Isn't there anything we as the consumer can do to protect ourselves??

I' d like to start by giving some background info. I went to the bar with some friends and started a tab with my card. I told the waitress i would be paying cash at the end of the night and NOT TO SWIPE THE CARD. She didn't seem to understand and did it anyway. when she presented me with my sign slip i said NO NO NO i'm paying cash go back and void this. (note that my tab consisted of an entire birthday party's drinks and i knew my account was low, hence me paying with cash). She told me it had been voided. well it was still out of my account about a week later and for some reason i thought it was in there :/ hmm... wonder why... because I NEVER SIGNED ANYTHING. as i made purchases with my card, various amounts were being preauthorized which was really messin me up. Soooo i overdrafted 12 dollars two days ago, ten yesterday, and today i have a negative 200 dollar balance (taking into account i've already had one fee waived because i called and complained). can 5/3 even do that? take out preauthorized money in which i never authorized? I know "technically" it isn't taken out... i couldnt' access my funds.. it was out. what's a billion dollar company stealing from a broke college kid for? if they can do that, how many overdraft fees are they allowed to hit you with at once without posting anything to notify you on your ACCOUNT? I have direct deposit and there is literally nothing i can do to pay them because they have my money before i do. HELP!!!!!! (I'm sorry for the language in case i offended anybody i am just very upset at the moment and now get to miss payday tomorrow)

I had previously overdrawn my checking account so 5/3 talked me into opening a savings account to cover any overdrafts. Last week, I had an overdraft and couldn't figure why no money was moved from my savings to cover the shortage. I later found that the accounts have to be "connected" for the overdraft protection to work. This incident cost me $740.

Jackie 2898 please contact www.federmanlaw.com since they are currently sueing PNC bank and investigating Old National Bank (we are going after both) so you can sigh up for them to be investigated along with the rest of the crooks at the banks. This is happening because new legistlation will make it illegal for them to do this in the future so just like the credit card companies they are trying to rape you now since they will not be able to later. It is illegal and if you get in their face and add a law firm to your email messages you will get some attention. Go after them even after they pay you back. They have to be caught and punished for this criminal activity.

I have lost over 1200.00 to this bank. I have been a customer for 11 years!!! They take the largest amount to post , regardless of the time it actually comes through... and deduct that first so you will incur more overdraft fees from the smaller transactions.... !! Then after they charge you 37.00 for each transaction (even if 5.00) they charge you overdraft fees on the overdraft fees they charged you!!!!!!
Along w manyy other shady practices! My goal is to get back the money ,I feel they have STOLEN from me. After investigationg online,i have found I am not alone..currently appears to be several class action suits all over the country for the same issues!!!!
